Clinical Psychologist in Lund

MALIN BÄCKMAN, LIC PSYCHOLOGIST

Whether seeing a clinical psychologist is something you have thought about for some time because of mental health issues or it is an idea that recently has come up because of an external event or challenges you are facing you are welcome to book an appointment.

Sometimes one or a few counselling sessions can be enough to get a fresh perspective on what is happening in life and move on,  to take action, or gain an important insight. Sometimes a longer treatment to deal with depression, anxiety or deeply ingrained thinking and behavioral patterns is called for.. You decide what you need and what suits you at this particular point in time. My job is to make good use of the time we have and be of best possible assistance and support in the challenge or difficulties  you are facing.

I have 20 years of experience as a clinical psychologist, working mainly in primary care settings or at University hospitals in Lund and Örebro. I have had my main training in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and also have a long experience in working with mindfulness and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), especially with depression or stress-related problems.

I also have training and take a lot of interest in Psychological Coaching. Coaching can be very effective in problem solving or in reaching different types of goals, both professionally and personally.

I take special interest in health-related issues such as stress, sleep-problems, changing habits such as smoking or taking up physical activity. I also have done extensive work with people going through difficult life events such as bereavement or physical illness and also with anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress (PTSD) existential crises etc.

I also take a lot of interest in women’s psychological health in a lifespan perspective. Women are twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with anxiety, depression, stress-related issues and chronic pain. Sensitivity to psychological disorders increases with pregnancy and after childbirth. Many women experience psychological distress during perimenopause and menopause, but not much research has been done in this area.
